all family and employee discount programs are to be done BEFORE the deal. after the deal means after the parers are signed. you are totally locked in and nothing can undo it. Just like if you pay at the grocery store and then go back and say, hey I have coupons. (Although a store probably will give you the difference, but they do not HAVE to do it)
and employee, family discounts are not negotiable prices they are better than you will get dealing yourself and that's that.

Immediately upon entering the dealership. They will want to check your qualification and then they will tell you the price of the vehicle. There is no negotiating this price. The only thing to negotiate would be a trade-in or perhaps the financing arrangements.

[Edit re: 410girl's comments - The dealership can be fined by GM for doing this if they get caught. The fine makes it not worth trying to cheat.]

[Edit re: VinceM's comments - Wherever you found your information, someone has lied to you. The X plan (or whatever they are calling it nowadays) is specifically designed for these folks to enjoy the benefit of a no hassle, lower priced experience in return for their years of hard work for the company. Why on earth would you want to waste time making a deal when you already have a deal that is better than any of us non-factory employee folks can ever make?]

Unless they specifically tell you different, make your best deal. Get it in writing and put it in your pocket. Agree on the best price, then, before they draw up the finance paperwork (usually a guy in another office). Then tell them you'd like to apply the discount.

If the sales staff gives you a hard time about it, remeber this. The dealership loses nothing on the discount. GM pays for it. If they still hesitate, leave the dealership and contact GM. They can apply pressure on the seller to honor the discount. Remember the piece of paper in your pocket when you go back to the dealer to finish the purchase of your new car.
