Walmart and Lowes has run more family owned business out than any other company and you end up with junk and poor customer service ! Am I right? Plus the people always call the small business man to come and fix the installation of the store or install what they bought from the bigger stores cause they didn't want to wait for Lowe's to do it then complain cause they paid more money than if they would have just hired a small company to do it in the first place. What's your thought??

I don't hate Starbucks. Their coffee was great until too many of them cropped up & the recipes changed. I can make my own flavors cheaper too. As for Wally World, they came to my area in the late 80s. I remember being inside the store & saying to my mom, "I feel like I'm inside a bigger K-Mart." I wasn't impressed & still am not. I shop there as K-Mart filed bankruptcy in the 90s, closed a bunch of stores & is now co-owned by Sears. Target isn't close enough to shop there or I would instead.

I don't have crap merchandise from Wally World either. My entertainment center & cd storage is from there. Both are still in use & I've had them for 6 years now. My bath towels need to be replaced, just this year, from Wally World. My cordless & corded phones are still working, all phones still work, only had to replace one, the cordless. I got my 3-cd shelf stereo as an engagement present (wedding was called off), still in use.

A lot of people blame Wal-Mart & Lowe's on their own failures in business. If you own a business, big or small, you HAVE to have a business plan. It needs to be detailed & cover more than just 5 years. Most businesses fail within 5 years or less. People don't plan for slow times, overhead, expenses, wages, etc. I have several friends who own their own businesses & shop Wally World, Target & Lowe's for supplies. They get those store employees in their shops. So it's a win-win situation.

I know plenty of family businesses that have HORRIBLE customer service...all sorts of industries. For the most part, my experiences have been better at big box retailers like Home Depot, Wal-mart, etc. So, I don't agree with you on the customer service argument.

I think these guys just do business better than most people. If smaller people adapt and change their business model, they can survive.
