OS X takes most of its good features from the FreeBSD base. FreeBSD is a nice system... very stable and fairly performant.

The Mac bits of OS X contribute all the parts of the system built to look nice, and to lock the configuration behind multiple "user friendly" barriers. And, partly as a downside to the base OS, application support sucks, outside of a very small subset of software. Sure, you can play a few special case games, and sure, you can run Office for Mac, but outside of some toy software for building photo albums or other such useless crap, you won't find much.

Bottom line, if you need a computer, use a computer. If you don't, use a Mac.

I have to disagree. Mac OS X doesn't give you any freedom (like all Mac computers) to change you computer to your liking. Say you want to make your computer a gaming machine. With a PC, that's really easy, just take out the video card and put a new one in, and then load the drivers. With Macs, you have to buy a new computer every 4 or 5 years to keep up with the changing technology. There's also more software available for PCs than there are for Macs. I love my Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I can hook my Xbox 360 up to it and download movies :D

Windows isn't that bad. I have Windows XP Media Center edition.
Works perfectly. Although, I think Mac OS X is really cool.
