this is a tough one but without the success of the simpsons their would never be a family guy or a south park or any other popular adult oriented cartoons. and the ability of the simpsons to continue to create new episodes more than 15 years after its debut is another milestone that no other animaated series will be able to reach. and u cant deny the fact that peter is a homer clone and lois is a marge clone. lisa and meg both are the outcast of the family as well. however family guy has definately made a name for itself with its style of humor. they push everything to the limits (much like the simpsons did when they first started out) and make a very entertaining series. the simpsons may not be as funny as they once were but still come up with some very funny episiodes and family guy makes very funny episodes but when u really think about it they are really a bunch of one liners put into a episode. so they both have their good points and bad but i would have to go with the simpsons because they are the originators and have the longevity as well.

I first read your question and literally screamed, "OH SH*T!!!" This is so debateable... The Simpsons are a classic and can never be replaced, however, Family Guy has got the testicular fortitude that no other show could possibly come close to touching! What they need to do is collaborate and make a movie with both shows... I'm going with Family Guy on this one, I'm in love with Seth MacFarlane and all he does!! Plus, nothing could ever top a little British baby trying to dominate the world!!! Victory shall be Stewie's!!!

No way, the SImpsons are still the funniest cartoon on tv. Sorry but Family Guy is just full of sick and cheap humor. The chicken fight!? Sorry, but that's not humor, it's just stupid. Family Guy could learn a thing or two from the Simpsons.

Retire the Simpson's? are you crazy? the Simpson's, is a perfect way for the family to come together and laugh at to days issues with the working class. If we had to eliminate any past family shows, let Andy Griffith rest in peace. viva los Simpons.....

Simpsons are able to be funny without being as crude as the Family Guy althought both are funny. Simpsons seem like they are way past their prime though.

Simpsons. It is still funnier than Family Guy. Simpsons at least still has some humor that takes thought to understand, while Family Guy is just teenage juvenile humor.

You are so right! The older Simpson's were alot better then the newer ones. The new ones are kind of stupid. Family Guy is stupid but also funny. I think the older episodes of any show are the best.

I like them both but I think I would have to say the Simpson's because now that I think about Peter really gets on my nerves. Nobody can be that stupid. The only reason I watch is for Stewie and Brian.
