Appreciate the chance to help you. I have been in this situation before. Here is what I did:
1 - Explain your situation to your new potential employer.
2 - Ask the potential employer if they would be willing to schedule your interview during your lunch hour.
3 - Ask them if they would be willing to interview you during after-hours. I had one employer who actually suggested that first. When I told them that I had to go home to change (because we had a jeans-casual day) they told me to come to the interview in my jeans! I got the job with a huge sign-on bonus. Never hurts to ask.
4 - IF they are an employer who provides services during night or early morning hours, they may be able to interview you at those times - just ask.

Most employers are sensitive to the fact that the people they are interviewing are leaving another company. Schedule the appointment for either first thing in the morning or late in the day and tell your current boss you have a doctor's appointment on that day. This way you don't need to take off an entire day. Using the doctor as an excuse also buys you a little time if it takes longer than expected. Everyone has sat in a waiting room seemingly forever.

If it is nearby and you get enough of a lunch break, keep a suit in your car and go at lunch. You can stop at the nearest fast-food restaurant, gas station restroom, etc and change then change back when you are done.

Basically, you have a few options.

1) Call in sick..if you have sick leave days. Some employers do not and put all leave into Paid Time Off, which I hate. If you have PTO, this may not be a option for you..unless you want to take an unpaid sick day.

2) Try to interview during lunchtime if the potential employer is close. This will work and the employer should understand.

3) Call the potential employer and ask if you can interview before work or after your work day ends. If they do not understand..that would be shocking. Ask them if they can spare some time..to interview you..I think after work would probably be easiest for them.

It's a matter of setting your priorities. How badly do you want the job for which you are interviewing? Are your chances good at being accepted? If the answer to these questions is high, you must then decide if it is worth the loss of pay at your present job to make the interview. Do you risk your present job by taking the time off or for seeking a new position.

schedule interview around lunch, or near end of office hours, or early... you ca be either (very) late to work, extra long lunch, or leave office (very) early, for somekind of "emergency" matter... have to pick up your parents from airport, take someone to hospital (small accident), etc...
