im getting married on ocotber 31st. we want to try to have a baby right away. im currently on the pill and have been for the past 5 years. my "pill period" is to start october 24th. should i stop the pill at that time or should i stop in september to give my body a month to go through a regular cycle and just use a back up method until after my period? ive heard that if youre on the pill, then its not a REAL period. sorry if this is confusing :)

If you have been on it for 5 years, one more month will not make a difference. And for your wedding day, I would recommend that you stick with what you know best - there would be nothing worse than have a period for your wedding night. For my wedding, I took the pill for 2 months without a break - then I had a great wedding day and honeymoon without any period worries.
But because you have been on the pill for so long, don't expect to get pregnant straight away. I was on the pill for about 1 year, and it took me 9 months to conceive. Everyone is different and some people can get pregnant while still on the pill, but I blamed the length of time it took on the pill. I was otherwise very healthy.
Good luck, and have fun trying!

everyone reacts differently to stopping the pill. Some women get pregnant right away (I was on it for 7 years and thought it would take me time to get pregnant, I got pregnant right away) others take longer to get pregnant (my sister in law tried for a year after the pill before she got pregnant). I think it is your call. You can stop in September and use condoms or another form of birth control. Or you can go until October. There is not way to know for sure if you will be a right away or a take a little longer person. Once you are married and you want to conceive, try this website to help you track when you ovulate and are most fertile.

It can take up to 6 months I've been told to get the effects of the Pill out of your body, but in saying that, some women get pregnant immediately coming off the pill, while others get pregnant whilst on it!

To be on the safe side, and if you don't want to wear a maternity bridal gown, I would stop about a month before your wedding day.

Remember, it can take up to 12 months to conceive, so don't stress too much if it doesn't happen straightaway... mother nature's timetable generally doesn't follow our own!

Good luck for the wedding and the future family!

Pammy's right. Some women will get pregnant right away (just as some will get pregnant from just missing a pill) and some will take time for their bodies to adjust.

If you're serious about wanting to get pregnant as soon as possible after you get married, maybe you should stop now (or at least soon) and just use condoms until after the wedding. Of course, if you stay on the pill, you can be assured of not having your period on your honeymoon (since you already know it's due a week before the wedding) and that might be a worthwhile reason to stay on it for now.

There is no guarantee you are going to get pregnant straight away. It could take up to a year after coming off the Pill to get pregnant, maybe longer. I would stop around August/September time to allow your body a bit of time to adjust without the hormones and for you to get into a regular cycle. It is not dangerous if you get pregnant straight away as the hormones come out of your system within a couple of days. It just makes it easier for the doctor to calculate your due date if you have regular periods.

I was on the pill hen I stoped cause me and my hsuband try for a baby. My doctor advised me to wait at least 3 months before he could do anything. Cause the pill (well the hormones) still can be in ur system up to 3 months. (they say that to protect themselves) So if u stop wait at least one normal period then if u don't conceive within 3 months well go see your doctor! But stress free is the best way! Just don't think about it and It will happen! Good Luck!

One thing that you might want to consider is.....
if you stop the pill in September, your cycle may be off and you could get your period during your wedding or honeymoon and you really don't want that.
It all depends on you and your husband-to-be. Everyone is so different. You may get pregnant right away or it could take months to a year. My doctor told me that I shouldn't stress if I didn't get pregnant right away. They say give it a good year before you become a little concerned.

You're right, the monthly bleed you have while on the pill is not a real period.

I am trying to concieve, and came off the pill 5 months ago, I had been on it for 4 years.

I know it is different for everyone, but I suggest you come off the pill soon, to avoid the disappointment I have gone through trying to concvieve.

I didn't know it took time to concieve after being on the pill, and it has been really hard.

Good luck, and congrats on your engagement!

I would stop taking the pill now and use an alternative method of contraception, that way by the time you get married you have been off the additional hormones for a few months and should be ovulating normally :)

good luck

I would stop it now, October is only four months away, and if you want to have a baby, even if you got pregnant before your wedding you wouldn't be showing that much. And chances are that after being on the pill for five years, it may be hard to conceive
