enlightenment - You state:

"I would imagine Rather (and his producer Mary Mapes) did believe the documents to be true and regardless of the particular memo, the story he broke IS TRUE."

So, in your view, the manufacturing of evidence is okay if you believe something to be true? Rather against the Constitution, isn't it (pun intended)? So, in your view, it is okay for the police to plant cocaine in someone's car because they "know" someone is guilty? Come on, you can't really believe that!!!

The evidence he produced was not even controversial. There are letters that prove George Bush Sr. called Lt. Gov. Barnes to get George W. in the National Guard, in fact, he requested a highly sought position as a pilot, which he got. He was placed before thousands of young men, some of who died in Vietnam to get this position.

Lt. Gov. Barnes was returned the favor when he was a lobbyist for G-Tech (lottery) GW Bush granted G-Tech the bid for the Texas lottery. When G-Tech was busted for questionable payments to the lottery director's boyfriend, he fiexed that for G-Tech also... payback.

Rather-gate was simply a smokescreen to hide the fact that the Republicans were stealing the election, nothing more...

I would imagine Rather (and his producer Mary Mapes) did believe the documents to be true and regardless of the particular memo, the story he broke IS TRUE.

He was canned and lynched in the media to serve as another smokescreen story, right up there with, Christians who don't want homosexuals to have families...

It was simply a distraction. To cover up the voter fraud that put Bush in office. Because, everyone wants to forget it, but the truth is Kerry won. He got more votes than George W. Bush, the Republicans just criminally did not allow Kerry's votes to be counted. This will happen again in 2008, primarily in New Mexico where the RNC is already fixing the vote "cages" on Mexican-Americans.

So enjoy... Republican rule... it is great.

here we go again with that same old lie enlightenment as if you say enough times that Bush "stole" the election that that will make it so. You don't have anything to offer to support that..it has been decided. You saying that Bush stole the election has about as much meaning as saying "we was robbed" when the home team loses a game fair and square. YOUR GUY LOST. Bush won fairly and legally. You know you should really try thinking for yourself sometime instead of parroting the words of every left wing malcontent to come down the pike with a new book to bash Bush.

As far as Dan Rather goes I'm pretty indifferent. I long ago gave up on him as being any kind of balanced commentator. I really wasn't surprised by that stunt he pulled...to me it was par for the course. "Goodbye Dan, Don't let the door hit you in the ***".

I don't believe that Dan Rather lied, and I doubt the documents were fake. I don't trust Bush or anyone else in his administration.

A sorry excuse for a "journalist" Of course he lied, that's all he knows how to do. A self-absorbed, pompous, biased, anti-American, dummy. After 40 years - Good Riddance! Ed Murrrow, Walter Cronkite - now they were newsmen. Rather was an ignorant bum.

Dan Rather never hid his feeling about the Bush presidents, especially this one. I think he was set up. Although I didn't always agree with him, I think he presented the news fairly. I miss him,

It looks like he lied -- or maybe he didn't care that the info was rigged -- either way, time to go fishing, Dan.

To Enlightenment: Smoke screens and diversions and stolen elections? You need to get a grip on reality.

people who report the news usually depend on others to check the accuracy of it
then report it
I think Dan Rather is way past his mental prime for being on tv... period

I think he lied. It is so obvious he is anti-republican and pro-democrat. I will be glad when he leaves the CBS evening news for good.
