I would like to know how many others out there feel the same...Why is min wage still the same after so many yrs? How can anyone LIVE on min wage? How can we afford utilities, groceries, gas, and other needed items on min wage. The prices on EVERYTHING are continually rising....meanwhile minimumwage stays the same.

There are some people that cannot accept that everyone's job is important. To all managers that will sit in their suits in their air-conditioned offices that will say that is not so, I issue this challenge: Give your entire factory/warehouse staff off on a normal work day. Go out there and do all the receiving, shipping, picking, packing, etc yourself. After you dry your tears and runny noses because sweating and getting your dainty hands dirty made you cry, see if you still think the jobs they are doing is not important.
And for people that say "you want more money, get a better job" that is really ignorant. I have had many job offers. Employers are delighted when they see my work experience and skills, but then they do not want to pay. It's funny to see how many job ads say they want "experienced" people, with all types of skills for "entry level" jobs. Then they whine and cry because all they get is lousy workers. Then they look down on you if they find out you have applied for low-income housing, as if the cheap wages they pay are the employee's fault.
Edit - To huh? above me - You are a very ignorant person. Where, exactly, did I ask for anything to be handed to me? And the point is, even the "unskilled" jobs are needed. You really do not think so? Try living without garbage pick up for a month, and see how "unimportant" you think a job like that is. And while you are at it, try living with no indoor plumbing, since you think the person that had to dig to put in your pipes has such an "unimportant" job. Let me guess - your mommy and daddy probably saw to it that you never did any hard work in your life, huh?

Simple: lower wages keep costs lower (prices indeed rise, but they would rise even higher were wages to increase). You'd most likely be under the poverty line if you are not a dependent and were to earn solely a minimum wage, so I think you' ve already answered your own question: nobody independent of another wage earner can live comfortably while earning minimum wage. The government hasn't changed the figure because it isn't required to do so and, politically speaking, no major group(s) have put enough pressure on those in charge to make a change.

Minimum Wage is generally for high school students looking for their first job. It is NOT for people trying to make a living. In fact, I totally disagree with the Senate..they recently struck down a bill to raise the minimum wage. The minimum wage has not been raised due to big business trying to reduce labor costs. This stance is generally supported by Republicans. I don't want to get political..but it is true.
Minimum wage has not not caught up with inflation..and that's a shame. It should at least track inflation.

Get an education or a skill so you can find a better job. People get paid what thier job is worth. Money isnt going to be handed to you for flipping burgers.
By the way to the one below me, just because a job is HARD, doesnt mean you should get paid well. Digging ditches in the desert is HARD work, but theres no skill invovled, thus, no money. Nobodys going to pay someone more than they are worth. Grow up and stop wanting things handed out, thats not how this world works.

I totally agree with you. I had a discussion with one of my friends about this the other day and it's ridiculous. If there raising gas and taxes then they need to up the min wage so people can buy this needed stuff. Our economy really stinks!

Minimum wage jobs are not for adults supporting a family. That is why you must get an education so you won't have to work for minimum wage.

Becouse whitey, a.k.a. the man, a.k.a. the grand puba, who by the way is not to be mistaken as an individual, but rather an establishment of individuals known to carry the moniker of CEO, would not be able to afford to take care of his mansion, yaht, or any of his other fancy toys. It's a tragity that uncle sam (whitey) could care less about his servants (us) and more about his own pocket.
