What amazes me most is the folks who presume to know what a fictional character is thinking. It's bad enough when folks presume to know what real people are thinking. This presumption is based on some deep insecurity in my opinion.
Batman is cool his rage drives him to gain knowledge, push his body to the limit and use deductive and inductive reasoning. Even though he is viewed as a vigilante he is not in it for noteriety. Crimefighting is cathartic for him. This and the fact that he has no alien or mutant superpowers makes him special. He can take down any criminal using his intelligence, knowledge of psychology and mental strength.
Though Bats is tortured and tragic he is also living a lie: Millionaire Bruce Wayne posing as a carefree playboy who hides his pain as he performs philanthropic deeds. Sure he's rude to his dates and sometimes to Robin (the original Robin Dick Grayson I mean) it's not like he had anyone but Alfred to teach him about forming close relationships. Remember, he adopted Robin becuause he viewed him as a mirror of himself. He wanted to parent someone because he wasn't parented. Still and all I think he regards Alfred as a father figure and trusted friend. I don't know much about the "aunt" I hear she was brought in as a response to homophobia in the 60s.
In short Batman loves and is completely devoted to his pain above all else. His deeds as the Dark Knight does not lessen the pain. The pain will always be there and he will have to live with it as others live with their's and living with that kind of pain is reality

It depends on which incarnation you're taling about. Batman from the comics, at least most of them, is great. A dude with "issues" and a bottomless piggy-bank for awesome toys can't help but be a little cool. And that Batman has been carried over to some of the movies and shows. But there is also the version of batman that is morally infallible and doesn't have that "realistic" psychology that I love.
Plus, I love the way Batman's villains are always his fault, usually because he accidently dropped them in a vat of "chemical X"

All these Batman haters saying that he thinks he is better than anyone is, that's because he is. He's trained for years since he was a child. He HAS to be better than everyone. He's going up against Superpowered beings that could level whole cities armed with nothing more than his intelligence and courage (for all of you that say he has his "gadgets," those would be an extension of his intelligence, since all his arsenal is custom made and adapted for his use he has to be smart enough to modify them and know when to use them). He seems not to care about Alfred or Robin because he does not want people to get close.
About being inconsiderate to his dates, keep this in mind when it comes to Batman, he's alter ego IS Bruce Wayne.
You see, Clark Kent pretends to be Superman. Batman however pretends to be Bruce Wayne.
If you watch the Batman Beyond animated series, Bruce Wayne even said in one episode that when he thinks to himself, he calls himself Batman, not Bruce.
So unfortunately his dates are just a facade to keep the image of Bruce Wayne as a playboy millionaire without a care in the world.

Of all comicdom, Batman is the most accessible. Rich kid sees parents get killed - wigs him out. He decided to conquer his fears and learns to out-fight, out-think, and out-endure his FELLOW MORTALS, and even some meta-humans.
Nothing radioactive, super, or mutant here, friends. This guy is just plain DRIVEN - disturbingly so. Borderline bi-polar and knows it.
I've been collecting the Batman (including Detective, Batman, Nighting, JLA, Robin, Superman/Batman, other Bat titles) since 1987. No disrespect to Spiderman, Wolverine, Superman, Green Lantern, etc., but the Batman is who other characters (heroes) in the DC universe (and sometimes in Marvel-world) seek respect from.
What's the question?!!

Batman Overkill...I don't like Batman now because there have been too many movies with so-so plots that drew people into the theaters with big-name actors. I admit I was one of those people, but I wanted to pass on "Batman Begins"...too much mediocrity. Not a funny or outstanding answer, but it is the truth from my perspective.

Batman is cool because he is a regular guy and a mortal. He does not have any super or mutant powers.
If necessary, he will cross the line to make sure justice is served.

I hate Batman. He seems to be so full of himself. He thinks he is better than everyone else.
He is inconsiderate to his dates, since he disappears all the time. He doesn't appreciate Robin or Alfred or his Aunt as much as he should.
It is all about money and crime fighting with him.
I wouldn't want to go out with him.
I don't know why I keep on watching him on television. I just do.
