looks too much like Kick Ball. With lots of bad acting. Watched every game so far. Trying to see what the big deal. Was still really not that impressed. Of course not having competitive team adds to the frustration.

I am an American living in Europe and have had many chances to think about this and I have come up with a few answers.

1. It is not the sport that we were brought up to play and watch. Traditionally, baseball and American football are the sports that have been played with tennis and hockey filling in somewhere behind them. As Americans we don't have the natural history with the sport that other nations do. This base is important because football is one of those sports that requires a large initial time investment before it can enjoyed. I speak as one whom has recently learned about the joys of soccer and I can say that I really did not enjoy watching the sport up until several months ago.

2. Football is a very unpredictable game. Whilst I am aware that a bad team can beat a good team in any sport this is especially true in soccer. This World Cup is a very good example of the trend and I think that this tends to push some Americans away.

3. Low scoring. It is undeniable that less goals are scored in soccer than in other sports. Many feel that scoring a goal is the climax of a game and the fact that this climax actualizes only several times a game keeps some people away from enjoying the sport.

4. Soccer, is a fairly subtle game in comparison to other sports. I would hate to say that Americans are less appreciative of subtleties and I don't believe this is true but I think that it is one factor that keeps them away from the game. The tactical decisions that the coaches make are less obvious to those watching unless they have watched a great amount of soccer before.

There are just a few ideas and I am sure I have missed some out. I am so angry that we lost to Ghana.

Because for the most part Americans can't win at soccer. There are so many other sports, basketball, American football, and baseball no one want to watch a team constantly lose. If America wins a few World Cups then maybe it might catch. It didn't help it's popularity by going 0-2-1 in this years cup.

I'm not really sure. I don't really like to watch sports but I started watching the World Cup and it's one of the few sports I actually got into. I hate basketball. I can tolerate footballl and baseball (baseball I find a bit more boring) I think if they took the time to market soccer here in the US it would gain in popularity.

Well hard to say, I know in Canada many people appreciate the game of soccer/football In fact the city of Toronto goes bananas everyday during the world cup. I might like to say in reply to one person's comment about hockey being boring..........hockey and basketball are probably the two most exciting North American games. American football is only so high scoring cause you count by 6's + extra point...........ummmmm..............baseball, well baseball is the slowest sport known to man.........next to golf, but at least golfers are always moving (I love golf by the way, but slow to watch to those who don't know the sport) All it really boils down to is what you know..........if you know a sport than you can appreciate the talent it takes to do what the athletes do. If you don't know the sport that well, than it's hard to appreciate it. Let me tell you though..............hockey is the love of my life as far as sporsts go, but having played soccer/football; no athlete impresses me, or amazes me more the professional soccer player, the things they can do are damn near impossible. Go to www.borme.com search football, and view clips, UNREAL!!!!

All the American not prefer the American Football, but the Truth it's...
The American Football it's more supported by the American people, If you see the t.v. rating of the Superbowl... you see a great and biggest support and approbation from the people, but if you see the MLS... nobody see the games of the MLS...
For that reason the Spanish League, and the English are more famous... have support from the people!!!
the people dint understands the soccer because for they its something new... but the Truth it's, the soccer it's more antique that American football

First of all, I wouldn't call it EUROPEAN football. The sport is played everywhere in the world, and is called football everywhere except the U.S. I really wouldn't know but an educated guess would be that Americans always tried to be different than Europeans so they came up with their own "football"

Because its hard to understand a sport where you can't use your hands but you can use your head...Now does that make sense?
I don't think so
