Somehow I have this feeling that we are dependent on oil because the powers that be want it 2 be so. Come on, with all the technology that we have nowadays, computers, microchips, space-travel, etc, do u all really believe that by now we couldnt find an alternative 2 oil if we really wanted it? Problem is that oil is the #1 comodity on the market & 2 replace it would mean that there would be a huge shift in the stock market which will cause severe crashes & lost of wealth 2 many individuals & countries.

Wake up people!!! Oil is not a renewable resource - there are not a bunch of little Gnomes in the center of the earth making more oil as we use it.

We, all of us, must become independent of oil as an energy source.

Go to your search engine, make a search on "oil depletion" and read the estimates on how much oil supply is left.

I think the West will mostly independent of foreign oil in 20 years. One of the reasons the US is dependent on foreign oil is the lack of refining capacity in the US, due to the EPA. I think recent developments stress the need for energy independence, and thus EPA regulations will ease. In addition, this has spurred alternate fuel technologies & explorations, which I think will be widespread in 20 years.
