Dust. The fans can't do their job even if they are on if there is a plie of dust inbetween them and the thing you are trying to cool. Also, your temp sensor could be off as well.

Like stated above - dust in the fans will cause the fans to not do anything besides spin. I have had this problem before with my laptop I cleaned it, and it still was overheating. Depending on the OS - Microsoft will lockup and then probably restart the computer. Where Linux has just locked up. The trick I found for this solution was to put 2" - 4" of space between the laptop bottom and the desk. I used old Nintendo cartridges to do this 2 high on all 4 corners. But just barley under it otherwise it would over heat on me. Haven't had a problem since - left on for 2 months now.

Laptops are known to get hot when used constantly. If it's working, it's probably not overheating. You may want to turn it off to let it cool down if you're concerned. You could also use it in a cooler room or take it to a technician, but that may be a bit extreme.

Laptops are known to get really hot...Mine overheats when I'm playing a larger game, but an easy way to overcome it is to put something flat underneath it (such as a book big enough to support it)...Or, go to Wal Mart, or Staples or something and buy "compressed air," spray it in the area where the fan is to clear out some built up gunk in there...

You might want to use a air compressor and blow out all that dust and any part that can collect dust. Just in case you don't own a air compressor, may a Friend or near by auto shop will let you use theirs. It will run cooler and make less noise.

well more information would be very helpful.... is it shuting down... is it getting really hot? If so, then your computer might be overheating... you need to find a program that will monitor the heat in your computer and see what happenes...

it is very common for a laptop to feel extremely hot, especially on your legs while you are using it. Try putting a towel underneath it while you are using it. Also, you may have had it on for a while, thereby causing it to get hot.
