Women do not ovulate when they are pregnant. The hormones in your body stop you from releasing an egg. There is no point since the reason a woman ovulates is to get pregnant. That is the basis for birth control pills. They contain synthetic hormones to prevent women from ovulating (so they don't get pregnant). This makes the body think the woman is pregnant and therefore does not ovulate. Spotting and implantation bleeding is common with pregnant women for the first few months of pregnancy.

Ovulating and periods don't have to happen together. Birth control blocks ovulation, but you still have a "period". You can also be ovulating without a period.

It could have been implation bleeding. And yes you could have a period while pregnant and even ovulate. It's very rare but not unheard of. Call your doctor to find out if you are still pregnant.
