There is a way to "Divorce" your parents but it is a big drawn out legal process and you have to prove that you can provide for yourself.

There are many laws here in the US to protect children against parental abuse. The first recourse would be to contact your local Children and Family Services Division at the Department of Human Service to make a report. Generally the report will be investigated further but in some instances they can also go un-noticed, so to speak. Contact the South Australia Child Abuse Report Line at 13 14 78

Here is a website that can give you information and help you reporting the abuse http://www.nccafv.org/

I would not recommend running away from home because of the abuse but being that the friend is 16, in Arkansas there is an emancipated law here. A child can be emancipated from their parent at the age of 14 but you have to be able to provide support for yourself whether it be through public assistance or working.

I am deeply sympathetic to anyone that has to endure abuse but line your ducks in a row before making a decision to run away because you can find yourself lost, mistreated, forced into prostitution, stealing, in jail or even murdered. Too many negative attributes are in this world and they are more prominent now than they were 10, 15, 20 years ago. Talk to someone you can really trust. Talk to a counselor at school, call the authorities if the abuse is more than normal discipline. There are ways around everything but it can also mean going into foster care and ending up in an even worse situation.

You are in my prayers.

nope, if you run away before you are 18 they will take you home or put you in a foster system. If you are over 18 then you would be considered homeless. Tell your friend to contact the police station and they will take care of his situation.

you cant run away because you can get in a lot of trouble so just call an abuse hot line or tell someone who you trust in and do everything you can to get out before things get out of hand
