It's ok as long as you prepare for cold weather. I did a cruise in July down the Alaskan coast, and it was usually 50s or 60s so we almost always needed a jacket.

I'd say early Sept is the best time to go. why? the tourists are gone, the mosquitoes are gone, the light is still above average and so are the day temps. A cruise is certainly full of creature comforts. Two considerations: a cruise is water/maritime oriented & stays in the Pan Handle, ie, southern part of the state; an Anchorage based tour of Alaska offers more land based/auto adventures and on average more continental [colder/dryer] type weather. It's all terrific territory.

Most of the cruise lines don't go to Alaska after mid September. I went in September and it was very nice. September and May are usually the best rates for cruises. This is a beautiful area to visit.

Alaskan cruises are very mellow and often times saturated with older couples. By that time of the year, it will be very cold. Either way, it doesn't sound like a great honeymoon IMHO. In fact, orbitz doesn't even list Alaskan cruises that late in the year, so they may want to get their ducks in a row and find out if anyone travels up there before getting their heart set on it.

the month of may would be better. it's warmer but the tourist season has not yet started so the crowds are smaller.
