Eletelephony

Once there was an elephant who tried to use the telephant
No, No, I mean an elephone who tried to use the telephone.

Dear me, I'm not certain quite
that even now I'v got it right

However it was, he got his trunk
entangled in the telefunk

the more he tried to set it free
the louder buzzed the telebee

I fear I'd better drop the song
of elehop and telefong.

The Hairy Dog
by Herbert Azquith

My dog's so hairy I haven't seen his face for years, and years.
His eyes are burried out of sight, I only guess his ears.

When people ask me for his breed, I do not know or care.
He has the beauty of them all, hidden beneath his hair.

(I learned those in the fourth grade and still remember them although I do not know the author of the first one.)

There was another one I wish I could remember that started, "Think said the robin, think said the jay, sitting on a fence post talking one day . . . " and then it goes on to say something like, "Think about people, the way they are, they don't have feathers at all you know" or something like that. I sure would love to find that one again!

What's it for? Some of my favorite are Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken, Any Shel Silverstein (Kid's Poetry) and a somewhat anaonymous one called Comes the Dawn. See links below...

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind...

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet...

To make all of your friends feel like there is something in them...

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true...

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best...

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own...

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on the greater achievements of the future...

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living person you meet a smile...

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others...

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger and too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

The signs of Love
Should be as clear
As when you look
Into a mirror.
And, as an image,
Come to you
Because you're
Merely being you.

Hickory, Dickory, Dock
Three mice ran up the clock
The clock struck one
And the other two escaped with minor injuries.

Try reading Pablo Neruda -

I Do Not Love You Except Because I Love You

I do not love you except because I love you;
I go from loving to not loving you,
From waiting to not waiting for you
My heart moves from cold to fire.

I love you only because it's you the one I love;
I hate you deeply, and hating you
Bend to you, and the measure of my changing love for you
Is that I do not see you but love you blindly.

Maybe January light will consume
My heart with its cruel
Ray, stealing my key to true calm.

In this part of the story I am the one who
Dies, the only one, and I will die of love because I love you,
Because I love you, Love, in fire and blood.
