What's the deal with the US and the World Cup? Are the US players poor compared to the world? Or was it bad officiating? Or bad coaching?

US is to new to the world of soccer. Look at it this way US start really play soccer no more than 15 years ago, every were else soccer has been played for centuries. Who do you think has better schools for soccer. So the US just needs to stick to it and evensually they will break through.

People no offense, but the US sucks at soccer. The only time they were a little good was when they played against Italy and they only got a tie (1:1) not a win. Its just that the US is for basketball and football not soccer. Once again no offense. By the way they just got beaten by Ghana 2 to 1.

They just don't cut it. There's no luck about it. As far as what V said, the only reason it's not that popular here in the US, is because they don't win often enough. The media only makes a big deal of things when they win, in general the US is nothing but a bunch of fair weather fans. If the US won a lot, and beat good teams, and won tournaments, then it might get more popular in the States.

We advanced to the quarterfinals last time, so I think it's going overboard to say we're competely outclassed by the rest of the world. There were some idiotic calls, but that's why the match is 90 minutes long. There was plenty of time to take the matches out of the ref's hands. We've got a ways to go, but we did win our qualifying group so we aren't so bad it's hopeless.

I woud think that if you are he # 5 team in the world you should be payng better ball. Before todays game we hadn't scored a goal in the World cup { own goal does'nt count] plus we gotsome bad calls against us in the Italy match i'm disappointed in our effort.

Well the USA does good against, the Panamas, Costa Ricas, and Guatemalas. But when it comes to playing the big teams like England, Italy Czech's, Brazil, ect ect, the usa comes up short.

To be honest, I don't think it's bad that US has football (or soccer, as they call it) team. But it's just a bad idea to compare them to the world. It has a little bit of politics in it, you know.
Plus, they do suck, you know. Sorry.

My opinion is that the US soccer team lacks motivation. Bad coaching certainly can contribute to that.

Soccer is like the 6th or 7th most popular sport. Most of the top athletes gravitate to other, higher profile (and higher paying) sports.
