It sounds like planaria. They are harmless to your fish and snails. They are simply a sign of overfeeding. Not all overfed tanks get them, but for some reason a few do.

Planaria thrive on excess food. The only way to get rid of them is by starving them out. Cut back on feeding and they go away.

Does it look like this?

These are fish lice, and they can attach to your fish. They are similar to human ticks. They suck on your fish and feed off of them.

Once attached to the fish they either pierce the fish's skin and suck blood and other internal fluids, or they feed on mucus and skin sloughed off by the fish. Sever infestations can devastate and aquarium. They can move very fast which is rather disconcerting when watching a swarm in your aquarium.

Lice is treated with medication, and it's wise to medicate the entire tank to kill lice eggs. (Remove any activated carbon from filter - it may take medicine out of water)

The best way to get rid of this parasite is to got to the local fish store and ask for clout or another lice med.

Are you sure these are not scales from the fishes skin? A lot of times fish will lose these or shed them such as a dog sheds his hair. The filter should clean this out.

Do you have male and female fish?? If you do, they probably mated and had baby fish. My fish gave birth and the babies were silvery and had tiny black eyes on both side of they're heads.
