I used to only come on here when I actually NEEDED to know something, but now I sit here really trying to think of more things to ask.
Are we all that desperate for human contact? Is there something wrong with us? We can all admit there are probably more productive things we could be doing with our time...

What are your thoughts?

I seem to find that i spend most of my time on here answering peoples questions about computers. I love computers, and I love to help people with thier problems. For me it's a way to always be helpfull while doing something i love. Also, for those out there who come on here just to ask questions, maybe it's the concept of get answers from people around the world that just intrigues you, which then causes you to think of other things you're interested in knowing what someone in Zimbabwe thinks, compared to what someone in Florida thinks.

Not everybody has people in their environment with whom they could to talk about things, which are interesting for them.

Also yahoo questions is a kind of brain training, because some of them look at things from a different side.

It is possible to get very more diverse answers than from people around us.

Of course, it reflects in part the situation that a number of people are not involved productively by their societies in practical work well. A certified specialist has to do technical work not by speciality for his/her survival and has fun only during leisure time answering question by speciality.

What you're talking about I believe is a phenomena called "Social Proof". A class I recently attended dealt with this so I looked it up and came up with this:

"Social proof, aka informational social influence, is a psychological phenomenon which occurs in ambiguous social situations when people are unable to determine the appropriate mode of behavior. Making the assumption that surrounding people possess more knowledge about the situation, they will deem the behavior of others as appropriate."

In a way, you can kind of relate this to being a fan of a particular sports team like 'NY Yankee fans' flock together. It's a common denominator kind of thing.

Well, people love to give their opinion. Also, the net is the way to reach out to so many people if you have a question and want answers. And you can do all of that without them knowing anything about you.

I don't know. We are curious about other peoples lives? Deep down we are all voyeurs and enjoy getting glimpses into peoples personal lives. I am contstantly checking to see if anyone has picked me for best answer, seeing how many answers I have answered...it is crazy. I am going to get fired.

It's the points.

We all want to be the best and get the high score. Plus there's the incentive of fabulous prizes of an indeterminate nature.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with problems. It's nice to know that there are people out there that might be able to help me. And there are times I can possibly help someone else.
