If you're signing a credit card slip, legally, you must sign it. If Hollywood Videos requires some sort of signature regarding the movies, your friend should sign.

Whoever's Credit Card is the one who signs the Reciept. If someone else does, and they are not an authorized signer, then the credit card company might kick it back as fraud. If it is his account, then he is liable for any late fees charged for the movie.

For the credit card receipt, it should be the person whose name is on the card. If the store also makes you sign a rental receipt, then the person who holds the store account should sign that.

You sign because you are the signatory for the credit card acccount. You friend can only sign if you have a joint credit card account and he is a signatory too.

Unless you are going to claim your friend is using your credit card without your permission, it is irrelevant who signs the receipt.
Or, unless you intend to perjure yourself and claim you had no knowledge of the transaction.
If it is signed with your approval, it doesn't matter who signs it.

whomever will be responsible for returning the movies should sign the receipt. ultimately it's his account, so he'll bear the responsibility of whatever happens...
