What don't you have? A phone line or internet sevice? Dialup with a phone line is still the cheapest by far, yet it is also the slowest. paying a bit more is way worth the money for faster connections. DSL also uses phone lines but is much faster and does not tie up your line while you are online. Something I reallly hated when I still had dialup. Cable is fast but more expensive, but you also share it. During times of heavy use it slows down sometimes to a crawl. DSL does not share so does not slow down. Satilite is most expensive and usually used when cable or DSL is not available. It is slower than cable and DSL due to the long trip to the satilite and back. Good luck on which one you choose.

I have Vonage...with that I have my own line, I don't have to keep my comp on to be able to talk just have the telephone plugged to my broadband modem. I pay only US$27.00 and have all the phone features like caller id, call forward etc, plus I can talk unlimited to anywhere in the USA, Canada and Europe without extra charge.
I know it looks like I am advertising for them, but I am not.
There are many others offering this service known as Ivoip, but Vonage has the best sound quality between all them.

Get ADSL. Dial up is definately the cheapest way to go, but you'll spend FOREVER looking up websites. That's assuming that your ISP even provides Dial up, it's a out of date way to connect to the net. I heard NetZero isn't bad either, although i dont' know much about it.
