College is only a waste if you make it that way. Some people go to college and waste four or even six years of their life studying something that they have absolutely no interest in. However, if you believe in statistics, then maybe you should check out the average salary between a hairstylist and the average college graduate:
Average Hairstylist Salary: $21,453 per year
Average Salary for a college graduate: $30,337 per year
So on average, the average college graduate makes about 41% more than your average hairstylist.
Ok...enough with numbers, the real question should be "What do you want to do?"
You definitely can't learn hairstyling at college, but you can learn other skills that will help you in your career as a hairstylist...for example: business skills, which you can learn in college that can help you in they way you manage your hairstyling career or Health Services, where you can learn about the fundamentals of human biology to help you understand the canvas you're working on...they human head. You see, your options are every where...just plan your work then work your plan. I know, it's easier said than done, but you just have to have the desire to do it.

Higher education is never a waste of time and money. You might get into some class and decide that you would like to do something else. And you might find out that cosmetology is just the thing you want to do.

You might want to major in business. Banks will most likely give you a loan to start your own business or expand your business if you have a college degree. You could make even more money with cosmetology.

well, i remember this woman who cut my hair a few times (basically until i realized she cant cut hair) she said she has been doing it all her life, for 26 years, and does not know how to do anything else. that alone was a scarry thought. but the worse part was that i could not really carry a conversation with her... she had this getto attitude and vocabulary. I guess women at the hair salon generally talk about the same stuff: which celebrity got married, which celebrity has a kid, who has the biggest ring... bla bla bla
go to college, take classes that teach you how to manage your small business and open up your own beauty shop

I think that everyone should go to college despite their career choice. You should always have a backup plan. You may decide ten years later that you do not want to cut hiar anymore or that you would like a career change. Its much easier to go to school when you are young and have the time.

Why would you need to go to college after doing a course in cosmetology? Seems pretty rediculous to me.

You definitley should, even if its just a 2 year college. What happens if the hair thing doent work out and your too old or too lazy by that time to go back to school? Go to beauty school but go to college also.

You don't have to, but if you think you might want to go in the future, then start taking one class at a time at a community college.

The main role of the schools are should not be related to job, but to improvement of the individuals and society!
Thus, your decision to go to college is to improve yourself and the people around you! Not just to make some living! Bravo!
