It has focused our society to prize athletic prowess vs. intellectual ability. Thus some student athletes do not receive a proper education and associated life skills. What happens to them if they get a major injury? They founder.

Sports have provided many, many metaphors that are commonly used and understood by most people.

I feel that introducing competitive sports too early to children makes them self-indulgent, less cooperative, and less considerate to others. We should never teach children to "win at all costs" unless we want them to grow up to be monsters.

It has been positive in some ways because kids don't just sit and watch T.V. some of us actually play the sports and try to excersise. On the other hand some people go anorexic or bullimic to get into a sport or they take steroids but I mean nothing is perfect so yeah.

We obviously haven't felt the impact of soccer yet!!! out of the world cup and what in the first round!! anyway...unfortunantly we live in a ULTRA competitive society as adults, so i think any sports that teaches teamwork and integrity is great for kids...but overall i think it has had a positive effect.....

Good impact. It gives people with nothing to do, something to do so that they dont sit inside and get fat. Sometimes a little competition is a good thing, it releases your energy and anger.

Sports is just like another form of entertainment. It also brings out the competitivness in all of us. Its also family orientated. I would rather my kids watch sports than Vandam shooting some guys brains out all over a NewYork city street. Their is no harm in watching sports on television.
