Setup is virtually the same on any home based router. Your router has a website you log in to which is just the IP number that you type in your address bar on the browser. Your manual should tell you this number by default and you usually just login by putting admin in the user name and no password. If you can't find your manual then go to the company website and they should have the manual online using your model number.
To secure your network is use a customer SSID name. It's usually set to the brand name. Make sure you change it to something familiar. Also set a security code such as WEP. Though some say WEP is less secure it is still hard to crack and doesn't cause conflicts. WPA security has conflicts and some holes in its security protocols on home routers. You will need to put in a WEP key that will be used as a password. It is recommended you use a 128bit key but 64bit will be fine for use at home. You put in a mix of numbers and letters 0-9 and a-f. Just put as many characters as there are zeros in the space.
You will need to then change the settings on your computer to WEP security and put in the key.
I also recommend using a static IP for your wireless and turning off DHCP for extra security. Also it can't hurt to change the IP on your router.
You don't need to take all of these precautions but at least set a WEP key so that people will be deterred from using your wireless. If you change anything like your IP, don't forget it. You can reset the unit to default but you will have to check the manual on that.

First you need to read the material on both your router and your adapters. What security you use have to be used on both. If your router supports WPA which is the best, but your adapters only support WEP then you are limited to WEP. If the adapters support WPA then you can use WPA.
Next you go into your routers interface which is usually an ip address which you put into your browser. LIke 192.168.0.1 which is the Linksys interface. Then you need to set a password. After you set a password, go into the security section and fill out the information for the WPA or WEP security. When it is set you have to go and put your key into each adapter. Once you do that you are good. But then go back into the interface and make sure your hardware firewall is on. If you have a security suite make sure it supports WPA. Mine didn't and it took me a while to figure out why I was not able to get online. I just removed the suite the redownloaded and installed without the firewall. A hardware firewall in the router is better by far than a software one in the computer. Listen, read your paperwork, all the instructions and if you have further questions contact technical support. They can walk you throught this easily. Good luck fixing your security. This is very important by the way. About 35% of wireless systems are unsecured. Amazing but true. Heck in my neighborhood 85% are unsecured. Only mine and one other that my system picks up is secured and only mine is with WPA. The other is WEP.

Turn on at least WEP or WPA (better) encryption on both your router and your laptop. The instructions are on the Web site of your router manufacturer.
