I've just started my intern this summer working in an office. Being my second week here, I've realized something, and I'd like to know what everyone else thinks. That no matter where you are in life, or how old you are, you are always surrounded by clicks. There's never really a place, besides kindergarden, where everyone hangs out together, no one is more popular than the other, and whatnot. What do you think?

sorry i meant cliques, i don't think spelling is the matter at hand. As long as you got an idea of what i'm talking about then it shouldn't matter.

I believe that the correct spelling is "clique." I don't believe that the general grouping together of people in the business world is quite so extreme as described in the wikipedia article on cliques.
Certainly all human interaction involves people who lead, people who follow, personality clashes, triumphs, disappointments, etc., but most healthy, functional organizations don't have a leader that builds themself up through their followers at the expense of some person or group. Not that it doesn't happen (e.g., Nazi Germany), but it isn't usual.

Yeah, that's true. I remember the episode of Friends when Joey started working at the museum as a janitor and Ross was one of the Archeologists and they were at lunch. The janitors sat with janitors and the scientists sat with the scientists. Even though Joey was one of Ross' best friends, he felt pressured to sit with the other scientists. So you see, cliques really are for life.

I totally agree with you. I did an internship at a law office and there were clicks everywhere. There were women in that office who were in their 30's and 40's, and it still seemed like I was in some high school somewhere. It's sad, isn't it?

I agree. Its something, however, as we get older, that us smarter folks like yourself have to laugh at, and just look over. Keep smiling, thats the most important thing ever!

Oh, yeah, everyone's gonna choose sides no matter what. People just gravitate to their own personality types.
