My buddy has been stimulating his nipples to the point of lactating. He is adopting an infant and he wants to nurse the baby. He is not HIV infected an cannot pass any disease on to the baby however there is just something that seems not RIGHT for a child to nurse from a mans hairy nipple. He says its his baby and he should have the right to connect on this intimate level. His doctor has him on oxytosin, a hormone to increase the milk production. What should I tell my friend?

I have read about this and it is really pointless. The "milk" a man produces is nothing like what a woman produces. It will not nourish the child in the least but may cause some emotional confusion as the child gets older. Eating mustard can cause anyone to lactate but it is not breastmilk in fact the jury is still out on whether it is safe for infants to drink this type of liquid. Tell your friend that pregnant woman lose massive amounts of environmental particles and containaments thru their breastmilk this is nation and world wide. But the high amount of milk ratio dilutes this so the babies body (kidneys) are able to filter it. THe tiny amount of milk your friend may produce is more then likely going to be very toxic and have no immunity building agents nor the proper vitamen nutrient ratio. Sounds liek your friend is doing this for himself and not the baby. Tell him to enjoy the sore nipples too!!!
Now if he has gynecomista (breast like a womans)then by all means yes he can breastfeed.

Things your friend should consider for the childs sake, he/she will probably feel shamed as an older child teen if they learn of this. It can be very devasting for a child to feel unnormal. Also since it is an adoption the agency/parent may try to revoke the adoption so make sure they are on board. CPS may remove the child in such a situation if it is discovered by a neighbor or family member.

I never even thought of it. Knowing it was best for my baby was all that I needed to know. I had trouble for the first few days but there was no way I was gonna give up. I fed my first for 10 months. With my second it was the same. And having experience, knowing how convenient it is.. all just sweetened the deal really! Both my kids have been boobie babies. My second is 11 weeks old and I'll feed her til she's over it. For me there are so many reasons to breastfeed, and not a single reason not to.

I applaude him for being so serious and concerned for his baby's well being. I have never heard of it happening before, but if he is able to, he should win father of the year for the world as far as I am concerned. I don't know if there would be any difference in nutrition between breastmilk from a man or a woman simply because it is so rare. Best of luck to him. And I agree that he does have every right to bond the same ways a mother would. My husband is very much the same in thinking, with our son. It would make the world a lot better place if there were more guys out there like your friend.

Male lactation is not the same as female lactation. Men do not carry the same hormones therefore the liquid expressed from their bodies is not actually breast milk. I'm finding it hard to believe that he could "lactate" at all just through stimulation of the areolas. It seems to me that he would need to be placed first on an estrogen supplement, that would in turn cause him the physical changes of actually growing breast. From there he would aslo have to be injected with a miniscule amount of HcG (the pregnancy hormone) paired with an increased dosage of estrogen. I think that this question is extremely irrelevant but just in case it's not, there's your answer.

I'm not sure that he has the same antibodies as a woman would have in her breast milk. Tell your friend that although this is a very noble thing he wants to do that perhaps and bottle and a lot of bonding with the infant would be better.

Just because somebody can, doesn't mean that they should. Not even just that he is a man but also because he is not genetically related. It would also be wrong for a woman to breastfeed a child that was not biologically her own. It would be like the babysitter breastfeeding the child because it was hungry and she was lactating.....wrong in so many ways.

I don't believe that can happen. A man could never lacate enough to supply a baby with enough milk to sustain a healthy weight.
I find it hard to believe a man could lactate at all since they do not have the same hormones women have in high enough concentration.
Why does he not just use a bottle?

It's not ethical or normal for a man to breast feed. If a man was supposed to breast feed he would have been able to give birth. In other words, I just think that a male breast feeding is like a camel ******* a rabbit!

Yes I heard of this happening. However this is weird to me also. How can a woman look at a man sexually after seeing this? And if he is gay. I guess he just want to be the woman that he feels like. But I still do not agree with it.
