DSL is a part of broadband. Broadband is the measurment of the amount of speed you can get with a certain service. Heck, even dial up uses broadband, just the manner of delivering it is much slower. How much broadband you can utilize depends on the format it is in. Cable is really fast as it accesses the broadband much better than dialup. However, cable shares with all the neighborhood, so during busy periods when many are online the speed goes down. With DSL, your initial amount of available broadband may be a bit smaller than cable but you do not share it either. You can use a router to speed it up which is what I choose to do. I get 108Mbps which is darn fast. Now, satalite is not very fast either. It is faster than cable but it takes longer to send out packets as it has to go to the satalite, then to the receiver then back to the satilite then back to you. It has a much longer route to take to make the round trip. It also is important to have a clear sight to the equater in order to get a good signal. So. broadband is a measurment of available bandwidth, it is not a particular service. Good luck and I hope this helps explain it some. There are some good sites which will explain it really well, like http://www.howstuffworks.com

Broadband basicaly means "hight bandwidth." DSL is a specific type of broadband that uses the frequencies above the human hearing range to transmit IP packets (ie give you internet) without interfering with your phone service. This is different than a traditionaly dial-up modem, which uses tones in the noramal human range to communicate. There are other types of broadband, the most common competitor of DSL being the cable modem. This uses a cable tv channel for the internet. There are other faster connections, such as T3 lines, but these are normally only used for businesses, as only businesses require connections at such high speeds. As far as DSL and cable modems are, cable modems are usually a little faster, and a little more expensive.

The difference between them is the cost. Truly, I don't have them but the cost is what they want you for.
