no, only if under warranty(if bought new) and the ps2 has a defect

If you're still under warranty you could send it to a Sony dealership and get a new one. Other than that, since the new systems are coming out and PS2's arent expensive anymore, alot of businesses aren't taking old PS2's. EBGames would let you trade it in and pay half-off the system price if you trade in a workable PS2 to them.

Normally if you trade things into game places you can't just get a new one for free. At Game Stop most things you trade in depending on the condition they'll give you a credit for it and you can put it towards the other item you want to buy.

No. it is not free. if you trade it in at a game store like gamestop for example they give you some rediculous amount for it.
