You could get a jump start on making Christmas gifts. Start with cards and boxes. You can make them with stuff you already have around the house. Embellish them with buttons, fringes, material, old jewelry findings, wrapping paper, greeting card images, leftover wallpaper, shells, pressed flowers from the garden or nearly anything you can find around the house or in your goodwill box. You can make book marks, too. You can also decorate bottles from common products that are pretty. I fill them with inexpensive epsom salts or baby oil that I get at the drugstore for gifts.

I think it's obvious from my name. I do counted cross-stitch. All it takes is some fabric called Aida cloth, a pattern, and a few skeins of embroidery floss (I can't remember the cost of the cloth, but I the floss is usually less than 25 cents at Wal-Mart). You can start with small pictures, and work your way up if you like it. I've been doing it for about 20 years, and it's great to do for inexpensive Christmas presents. There is also a fabric called waste canvas that you can center on a piece of clothing (sweatshirts and t-shirts are good). Just a cheap sweatshirt, a few stitches, and you've got a designer shirt! Just remember to keep the waste canvas very straight on the shirt. (All the instructions come in the package of waste canvas).

What about buying and decorating flip flops for the summer? Right now most of the craft stores have basic flip flops and all sorts of fun foam shapes you can use to decorate. Or you could go together and find cool ribbons or jewels you both like and buy those to glue on.
Another idea might be to try purse decorating kits. They have those at Joann's right now, I believe. The kit comes with a purse and materials to use for decoration.
Either one of these would be a fun activity and you'd have some cute accessories to wear this summer.

Get a craft kit that contains one set of materials. Then, get duplicates of those materials and use the directions from the kit to make the craft. Example: I got a dream catcher kit. I was able to go to a craft store and pick up the same materials that were in the kit so now I can make them whenever I want (the materials: metal ring, feathers, beads, string used to knit with, leather strappy material used to cover the ring but I forget what it is called offhand).
