Nolan Ryan was 1st to officially receive a million dollar baseball contract, however it is rumored a year earlier Dave Parker, received over a million dollars in a season dure to contract incentives

Dave Parker, in 1979. But the contract was worded in such a way that it didn't appear to be $1,000,000 a year, but it was.

In 1980 Nolan Ryan became the first player to have a contract that said outright the salary was $1,000,000 a year.

I remember there was big stink about Fernando Valenzuela getting 1mil a year or so after he started playing for the Dodgers, so I'm guessing it was him.
