Hardness? Do you mean stiffness of the shank? I can't tell you this as I can't see your feet. If you have very flexible feet, you'll need a stiffer (harder) shank. If you can barely get up on your point, you'll need a more flexible shank. This is what a pointe show fitting is for - to help determine this. You'll try on many different types and the people that are helping you will be able to determine what shank, vamp, size, and all the other stuff you need. Good luck to you and have fun!!!

I don't remember anything about the hardness for point shoes but, remember that lamb's wool is your friend. Be very careful. I was put on point shoes before I should have been and I had to have hip surgery to repair some of the damage. Just don't go at it too hard to quick. Take your time, you have the rest of your life to dance beautifully.

If your dance instructor doesn't have a preference, and sometimes they do, then it is difficult to say. There are all sorts of feel and design for pointe shoes. Some are narrower while others are wide. The best thing you can do is go to your local dance supply shop and ask someone to assist you. Don't forget to tell them they will be your first pair. Usually, they fit you for them. Also, you can ask your dance instructor for some advice.
And yes, lamb's wool IS your friend....LOL

Depends on the type of foot that you have. See if your teacher recommends a good pair and if not, go to your local dance store where they do fittings and they would be more than happy to help you. I wouldn't recommend Freed's. A good "starter" shoe is either Capezio Glisse or Capezio Ariel. Good luck to you and to "balletbaby" for getting your toe shoes! YEAH!

If you are just starting, try sylphide soles, this is what I use, my feet would be considered moderate and this shoe is quite weak, so it does depend on your foot. Also you can buy silicon pouches to put in the bottom of your shoe, these are fantastic, you get very little pain! In New Zealand we call the ouch pouches, I don't know where you are from and what they would be called, but they are really really good, I definately recommend them.
