Buying a home for yourself is never dumb. First of all, living in an apartment has little to do with being single or alone. It does however have to do with wasting money. Also, you may feel like you want to be alone right now, but what if that changes in the future???
Let's just say that you rent a good , decent apartment, you will live there , as you say probably forever, Say, forever is 30 years, now multiply the rent, possibly that times the amount of rent you'll be paying in those 30 years. So for example
$850 a month for rent
X 30 years
----------------------
$25,500.00
Do you want to think that those $850.00/mo, you could be not just owning a home but also earn equity in the house for future repairs, or upgrading things in the house. There are also tax benefits for homeowners. And homes appreciate in value depending on the neighborhood, so if you ever feel like you've outgrown your home or no longer want to live there, you can sell it. Another alternative is , if you think a home is too big, than buy a condo unit. At least it's something you own, not rent and waste money on it.
Here's a site with some advice and benefits.

I see nothing dumb in buying a house for yourself as it does have its advantages also and the sooner you get one the sooner it will be paid for and no more rent. Then you'll have more fun money. Also having a house may be an additional attraction for the ladies . Also owning a house is an investment like putting money in the bank they build equity which can be borrowed upon if needed. You can buy a house and sell it later for a profit and find you've lived several years rent free, see the picture? However owning a house doesn't necessarily mean quiet or no drama if you don't do your homework before buying and wind up with problematic or nosy neighbors. And renting an apartment relieves you of fiscal responsibilities of major up keep expenditures. But both options can remain open for you so neither need be a permanent choice.

I don't think it would be dumb. When you live in an apartment you are paying rent and its gone forever. When you buy a house you are paying to own it. So I think you should start saving for a down payment on a house. It would just be the smarter thing to do with your money. And who knows maybe you will meet a nice girl and she can move in, but if not who cares you'll have a whole house to yourself. And it sounds like a house is what you prefer is a house, so you might as well spend you money on something you will like.

No, if you pay more than $600 a month for rent you should buy a house. It is a smart thing to have your own house and if you latter get married and decide that you wish to move than you can sell that house for a profit of use it as a rental property. It is very smart to plan ahead.
I am 24 and my sister(22) are looking in to buying a house though we live together now we know that will not be forever but it is all about planning for the future.

buying a house is not dumb, where did you get that idea?
With a house you can build equity so that you have some wealth down the road. Renters in apartments (like myself) lose in the wealth game. There are many benefits to owning your own home, including taxes.
you can buy a small house, with a couple of rooms -- one can be a gameroom or office, the other a guestroom for friends and family. The master would be your bedroom. Or you could rent out one room, and use that money toward the mortgage.
Save up and buy.

Buying a house is much better than an apartment. Mortgages build equity and help establish your own financial future. Rent only when you can't afford to save up money for a down payment for a house. Renting is just throwing money away. At least look into buying a condo, it has that apartment feel and you still gain equity

It's not dumb to buy a house for yourself. That is only making you progress. Once you have yourself established, you can start working on dating and meeting people. Apartments, to me, are a big waste of money. You will never own it, and you can never change it if you wanted too. You can build a new house for the same amount as you pay in rent.

Don't get married like forever is no good because 1st,you don't have generation in future,2nd when you get old,you will feel very very bored.Appartment is good for a person.Getting big house only a person staying is bored.Buying your house is no dumb dear. Your own house is better then renting because if your own house, you can do anything you like inside and you don't have to worry if the owner chasing you out from his/her house.

Why would it be dumb, if thats what you would enjoy living in?You would be paying rent at an apartment, and the payments you would pay on a house, means it is yours, and not giving your money for someone else to own something.By all means, find a cute little house, and buy it, single or not, you'll be much happier.

You don't have to accept anything. Do what makes you happy. If you'd rather wait to have a house when you are with someone, and not buy one just for yourself, then that's fine. Unless you are going to be miserable and think less of yourself for living in an apartment. But living in an apartment may let you save up money for a house later, also. I don't think it's stupid to buy a house for yourself if you truly want it.
