I have an 800 square foot condo with a 1 ton unit. Is this normal? Or should it be a 2 ton unit?

Acceptable standard is 500 to 700 sq. ft. per ton.

800 ft with a 1 ton, mightt be adequate depending on your location, but another half ton at least would be more efficient, eventually pay for itself in that it will last longer with less strain and you will be more copmfortable in what the extra offers.

I agree. One and a half ton unit would be better. When I size up a unit, I always throw in a fudge factor on the up side to cover any extra heat load. So I would go with 1-1/2 ton (18,000 BTU).

depending on your area [warm for at least 9 months]one ton [12,000buts]is not enough you should have a two ton unit and a two and a half ton coil the reason i say larger coil is because the more efficient the condensing unit .the less effective the cooling capacity
