I'm talking about the kind that cheapens you down,
makes you out to be some sort of cheap wh_re, an object just to be manipultated, used, objectified, and not recognized as a person.

When you hear this, what does this make you think? What do you think your boyfriend is thinking?

Is it any wonder some of the male youth listens to this, and then treats you accordingly? With all the date-rape, forced sex, physical and mental abuse, is the music the message?

I look at music the same way I look at religion - there are dumb people who will believe whatever they hear to be true, so they don't question anything. They will blame their actions and behavior on an outside force - be it god or music - because they cannot understand the motives behind their own behaviors. But there are intelligent people who can understand complex things on many levels. I tend to think of myself as the latter - I can enjoy hip hop music as a statement: a statement of the culture the artists belong to, or wish they belonged to. I don't think of myself as being objectified (although I am a white woman, I would be interested to here opinions from black women, who the hip hop culture is aimed towards) by the music, because I don't live in that culture.

I would hate for people to say that music (or any kind of artistic expression) would be the motive for behaviors, because that's just too simple, and sets the stage for censorship. I hope that people are intelligent enough to avoid that which they find offensive, and not try to police society.

women have always been objectified, manipulated, used, and even not recognized as a person, look back to when women couldn't vote for instance ... i dont feel that music can distribute them actions ... that would be like saying the video game made me kill all those people ...

i listen to hip hop and yes some of the songs are demeaning towards women, but its just a song, its just a way for them to make some bucks ... i dont feel that music is there to learn ur morals from, thats where your upbringing comes into play and the fact that ur parents have done their job to make sure u grow up and treat everyone with the respect they deserve!

I like hip-hop music but more into the old school from back in the 80's and early 90's. When the music sent a positive message. The new stuff thats out has good beats but to be honest I dont feel that the bad talk is toward real women who have a good head on their shoulders. The women who they mostly refer to are women who are displaying themselves in a negative. If your out dancing half naked and acting like a hoe then you will be treated like one. So as a women who has her self together and acts like a lady...the answer is no...I dont feel cheapened or affected in any way.

I will ignore the "girls" part of the question and say that rap/hip-hop is the gayest music (if you want to call it that) in the world.
