Was I 'hacked'? Does someone just scan airwaves, reset my modem, and then use my verizon dsl connection? How does this work? Thanks

you can make your network secure by adding a wep or wpa key. refer to linksys's website for details on how to make it more secure. before i learned about wireless connections, ppl in my 'hood were piggybacking me for service.

Yes verizon can reset it. As for someone hacking, they wouldnt waste time reseting your modem and I doubt if you have anything anyone would want anyway. If verizon dsl had a problem, it may have simply reset modems after the problem was repaired.

most people using wireless internet make the mistake of not properly securing the network. so anybody driving by with a laptop, and all your neighbors can gain access to the internet through your connection. Then again, sometimes cheap Linksys modems just reset on thier own.

Just put your router back to the settings you want, and place a couple firewalls on it (or one good one). Also, stick a WEP Key on it so it's not an unsecured network, and finally, make sure you're not using an older model of a Linksys router. When they first came out, they had to many flaws. Get a newer one. I have the WRTG 54 and it works great.

I would call your service provider and ask them if they had to shut down for a time when you got reset. It could just have been they lost service for even a second and it caused your modem to reset. Call and ask before you flip :D
