To me the opera is all about your position and perspective. There is a story being told by song on stage but not only are you getting the act so you can understand visually, you are also getting the sound. The sound is key to the show because the higher the note the more you can feel it emotionally/dramatically. For example, if you're at an aerosmith concert everyone gets Krazy when Mr. Tyler sets off his vocals. So at the opera when the vocals get so intense the audience gets involved because in that instant the audience can relate to that expression in their own life. Thus, they see a reflection of themselves from the position of their seats because this one story that is some how related and felt amongst the whole audience.

I grew up in an area where there were no operatic performances, except the Grand Ole Opry, so I did not appreciate opera until I started traveling and meeting people from different countries. The first time I heard a baritone soloist, from Italy, sing opera, the tears streamed down my face. His performance was not flawless, but there was a passion in it which moved me spiritually. I love the stage sets, the elegant costumes, the grandness. It is where I can go to see an expression of beauty which still exists in our culture.
I still love the Grand Ole Opry, I still love rock, but I have learned to appreciate the beauty of opera. All of those forms of music have an origin in Europe. Thanks for the question.

I love it. I'm a big fan of Andrea Bocelli, the 3 Tenors & Charlotte Church. I may not be able to understand the music as what I listen to is in Italian. My grandmother turned me onto Charlotte Church. She heard her on Letterman one night & called me the next morning on the cell to listen to her sing. WOW! is all I can say. I wish I could sing with that much range & talent! I'm tone-deaf so there's NO WAY for me LOL!! My favorite Days character, Chloe, portrayed by Nadia Bjorlin, sings Opera too. It was pretty cool that Chloe was off on an Operatic tour while Nadia was doing other shows. Days purposely sought out an Opera singer. When she & Brady, portrayed by Kyle Lowder, would sing, it was awesome to listen to.

I respect it and think that it sounds beautiful. It takes a lot to sing it properly. I don't sing opera but I'm a soprano and I know how hard it can be just to hit those notes. It's relaxing too, but it isn't something that I can listen to every day. Have a good day or evening, what ever time it is where you live.

I think it would depend on the music and the story..The only thing I have ever watched was the old Phantom of the Opera..and I liked it. Didn't care for the movie though...couldn't watch it.

Absolutely beautiful! Many moons ago, I trained vocally and had ambitions of becoming an opera singer. However, since I'm too chicken to sing in front of anyone, I stopped training.
I absolutely LOVE Porgy & Bess, my favorite all-time song is Summertime. When I hear it, I can "feel" it because while training, I learned that one. I mean I can feel it physically, I remember the experience of singing that one so freeeeeeeeeely!!! I still enjoy singing very much.

I only like it in small portions. My friend sings opera at a restaurant in Studio City, CA. That's about all I can handle.

Opera is the highest art form in music. It is the food for one's soul that might make you happy or upset you.
