I've finally decided to go for the dream but I want proper training by a school that has an exceptional reputation, so at least I'll be getting off on the right foot. Any ideas where someone closing in on 30 can go for training? I think the days of NYU are gone - too many 18-22 yr olds. I'm interested in all constructive opinions & thanks for your help!

Julliard or the Actor's Studio -- Age shouldn't make a difference, Grad school students average age is the late 20's.

The days of NYU are not really gone - many late 20's plus students are in these training programs. However, you may be more comfortable at the HB Studio in a beginning class. They are still top notch and the most reasonably priced in town. And, of course, there are others. For advanced work, go with a teacher who makes you risk it all, and check out The Actors Center.

It's not a school that you want - a school is a building, an inanimate object - "it" can't teach.

You should look for a well-respected "acting teacher."

Which technique do you want? Meisner or Method?

There are many good private teachers in New York City - ask your actor friends to recommend teachers.

Unfortunately, most of the "best" teachers are retired or deceased.

I believe Catherine Gaffigan may teach privately. I don't know what she is doing these days. CatherineGaffigan.com
