It is "sort of real" While the contestants reactions are real they are picked for certain mental traits and put into highly staged and manipulated situations in an attempt to achieve a pre-scripted outcome.

It's real, but just as with any other reality TV show, crafty editing is used to make people stand out more and make personalities more pronounced.

I'm not for sure. But i went to school with Brandon Quinton. He was on the Africa one, and gay. And let me tell you he would not go out there and fight the bugs and do that stuff if it wasn't real!!

YES ITS REAL, THAT IS WHY THEY DONT TAKE POLYNESIANS PEOPLE IN THAT SHOW, CAUSE THEY STARTED OFF LIVING ON AN ISLAND WITHOUT NO RESTAURANT, SO THEY SURVIVE BY EATING COCONUT, BANAN, SEAFOOD, AND ALSO THEY PLANT THERE OWN PLANTATION.
