There are a bunch of states that I would abhorr living in, including:
Alabama, Mississippi, and all of the Northeast US. However, the state that I think I would dislike living in even more than Alabama would have to be Texas. It appears Texas, both culturally and politcally, has a "shoot first, ask questions later" attitude. After all, Texas executes more people per year than all the nations of Europe combined.

If education is important for you, Vermont and New England states would be a good place to go, but also Wyoming tends to spend the most percapita on education, and Montana tends to do the best in scale scores for science. If crime is important to you, southern states generally do worse than northern ones, though Utah has a very low crime rate. Louisiana tends to have the highest rates of crime. For Urban centers, southern cities are still tops. Dallas - Ft. Worth, Jacksonville Fla, Albequrque (sorry for the sp.) all generally have much higher crime rates that northern cities of coparable size. Kansas City is also notable for a high crime rate, with more murders than NYC (in just pure numbers!!!) last year.
