From your experience who is good and who is bad?
What kind of site can you expect from 1gb disc space?
Is 15gb of data transfer per month enough for a frequently visited site?
Where can I get information on these statistics?
Appreciate your help.

Cheers for answering guys. If you want to help more, I have agreed to build a website for a friends business, it will be local but they have competition so want it to be top notch with animations and everything. With cost in mind I need to assess the right premium without being invoiced extra data transfer usage. Don't really know what data transfer a standard site would pull. Also will cookies reduce transfer from frequent visitors?
If you can answer all that then you deserve 10 points.

apache2 with php5 - both free and reasonably straight-forward to set up, if you don't have static IP then register with dyndns.org and install a dynDNS client.

now you can run your own web server!

of course if you have a mickey mouse ISP throttling your bandwidth then forget it!

Have to agree with Wandering Blade - 1&1 have been good for me and very cheap. In terms of web space 1gb can give you a substantial website - but it depends on what you want to put up on it, and same goes for transfer - what are you offering to visitors?

You can't do much better then 1 & 1

I've had my business with them for a while and they are first class. Great service, loads of features and good prices. (and no, I don't work for them!)
