I'm not really about white! Maybe vintage, maybe just a really cool evening dress. Any recommendations of sites or shops in UK?

I reckon nowt but suspender belt knickers and bra - I would of been dead chuffed if my Mrs turned up at our wedding wearing that! :O)

Believe it or not, white wasn't the 'traditional' colour for wedding dresses until the early 20th century!
Before then, young women just wore their best outfit, which was usually brightly coloured, or, if they were lucky, they got a new outfit.
Queen Victoria was the first to popularise wearing a white dress. Contrary to popular belief, white was not chosen for 'purity', but as a sign of wealth - white is a very impractical colour and back then a single stain would have rendered it useless. The idea was quickly picked up by wealthy families who wanted to show their daughter was wealthy and worthy of marrying, so they got to show off their wealth by wearing a lavish and impractical dress that would never be worn again.
There are plenty of shops that sell wonderful evening gowns that would suit your needs, why not search google. Or even find a dressmaker to make something completely unique?!
I'm not into white either, and should my other half ever get down on one knee he knows already not to expect me to turn up in a white meringue - like you, I'm far more likely to be in a brightly coloured evening gown!

My friend is getting married soon, and she's having a deep rose red coloured dress. It's a modern design, with a corset top and then a big skirt (think Britney Spears's wedding dress- possibly the only classy thing that chick has ever worn!) It's totally gorgeous and not conventional at all. Her reception theme is red and white, to match!
My cousin got married just last year, and she wore a slim fitting trouser suit in cream. It wasn't a church wedding, only in the registry office, so it suited the occassion but she's never looked as stunning. Now that's unconventional!

Why not look at what brides in other countries wear and draw inspiration from that. Brides in China generally wear huge red dresses or Indian women have a lot of intricate embroidery

hi - my sis in law wore a dark red and gold wedding dress and she looked stunning, just bought from a wedding dress shop. most places do a range on non white / cream dresses. otherwise, how about a really posh evening dress from somewhere like debenhams, who stock designer stuff. good luck!

I saw a beautiful dress recently that was cream silk with the most gorgeous embroidery flowers. It could always be worn at other parties or at the races. But silly me cannot remember where I saw it...sorry!

erm don't know about shops but you could try something in rich red or blue. my friend got married in a strapless red silk dress with beads on the neckline.

Go for a themed wedding - masked ball!
Think of all those huge ball gowns and gents in their tails 'Dangerous LIasons' style.

first of all white is the color of purity maybe you shold go with purple the color of ROYALTY this is my idea for my wedding but i'm 15 go ahead and take it mine isn't coming soon ;)
