Usually about 2 weeks, as long as you cut back on your salt intake, fried foods, etc.

your cardiologist is right, blood pressure fluctuates too much through out any given day to be able to trust one taken at random. If your blood pressure is going low enough to make you symptomatic, then you need to have the doctor re-evaluate the dosage, but skipping pills is playing fast and loose with your life. It might be fine to miss one dose one week and then the next week, you end up in the hospital with a stroke because the fluctuations break something loose inside one of your blood vessels. Don't be stupid, take your medication as ordered, and report to the doctor if you are having symptoms like near fainting, or fainting, or extreme head aches or nausea. Check your blood pressure daily, at the same time everyday and keep a record for at least a month to get an accurate trend. As long as your diastolic is greater than 50, your pressure is not too low.
