And again..............yes, you can use cat litter, but only the dust free kind and the kind that does NOT clump. The dusty kind is bad for their breathing and the clumping kind can lead to urinary tract infections because it gets stuck to their bottoms when they scoot their butts, and they do. Do not use wood based kind like Feline Pine or cedar either. The only wood kind that is safe is Aspen. It's harder to get and expensive. Get the paper type, like Marshall's or Yesterdays News. You get it where you get your ferret or you can order it on line. Check at www.ferret.com. They are reasonable.

You should not use cat litter for ferrets. The dust is not good for their respiratory tract. I used to use the pellets that are for pellet burning stoves. They really keep the smell down too. It was recommended to me by a woman that does ferret rescue in my area. They are very cheap as well.
If you can't find the pellets, try a paper based litter such as carefresh - it's more expensive, or yesterdays news will work too.

yes, if you can, always use the best, simplest, odorless, (organic if you can afford it), kitty litter you can find. Be careful or avoid the clumping type. I've been told if they lick their paws and ingest it,it will harden in their digestive systems and become a serious problem. I've used kitty litter for all types of pets without having a problem.
It's even good on iced walkways.

Yes you can and should use it too.
Get the type of litter that is fine and odorless too as that works the best and don't worry about the ferrets so much, with you they have a good owner because you are concerned about what's the best for them.
I commend you for you concern for their well being too.

I wouldn't use any clumping or clay cat litter for any small animal. If they ingest it, it can clump up and impact in their digestive tract.
I have been using Feline Pine litter and Yesterday's News for my rats and guinea pig for quite a while now with no problems. No dust, no toxic oils, and neutralizes odors well.

not the clumping kind. when it gets wet, it hardens up, like a rock. and put your ferret in the litterbox with the litter in it. watch, they will burrown and dig in it. as soon as you take your ferret out, notice the litter on her/his nose. it will clump up in their airway, and sometimes they get it in their mouthes! think about rock hard litter sittin hardening in Your belly. it could cause stomach problems. just use the dust free stuff and non clumping and youll be fine.
