Cry, talk about it, cry some more. Get it totally out of your system. Throw all of those memories away. Then go and live your life like you've never lived it before. Meet new people, go places, do things, and never ever look back.

It might be that we have to go through those feelings to learn from our experiences (we don't learn right away, we realize we have learned years later, sometimes we don't even realize we did learn anything)
The time we spend from the end of the relationship til we forget about it and move on, is usually much less than the whole relationship's time.
Through the years an ending relationship somehow meant freedom again. I don't think it happened all by itself but with breaking up many times. It's not that one becomes heartless but learns how to move on.

Try to involve in some work where u get least time to think about anything else. But to forget ur past relationship, it takes its own time. Till then make yourself busy.

Acknowledge the grief over the loss of the relationship. Understand why it ended no matter how sad. Give yourself time to "catch your breath" so to speak. A friend once quoted me something her dad said when I had a major breakup & it made me laugh, "Oh! I am sooo sad. But, who's that cutie over there?"
Allow the process to happen fully & you can close the door & move on. Don't give yourself a time limit.
