hahaha KooKoo Bananas's picture is george bush and he says it wouldn't affect straight marriages.
I find that funny.
But yeah.
IT DOESN'T.
Like I said somewhere else, most of these people who are against gay marriage are religious. In the BIBLE, it says that marriage is between a man and a woman.
My question is: Is the statement "marriage is between a man and a woman" in the constitution?
I'm not sure if it is.
If it is, then there should defintely be an amendment in there that gay people should get married too.
Probably the only reason they put that is because back then the gay community was not very open and they had to keep it hidden.
There was an amendment that blacks and whites can get married and back then it was gross and absurd for that to happen. You know?
If Thomas Jefferson and all those guys were here writing the Constitution today, I'm sure they would allow gay people to get married. They made everything fair [at least they tried].
You see what I'm sayyiinnnggg?

There's no way it could...marriage is marriage...many people don't take it serious now and many people wouldn't take it serious if gay marriage were legalized...it doesn't have anything to do with legalizing gay marriage that the "sanctity" of marriage is suffering it's just a statement about commitment in today's society. People don't like to work to make things work and that's not gonna change any time soon. It doesn't matter if it's a same sex union or one of the opposite sex...there will be problems that arise and some will be in it for the long haul and some will bail at the first sign.

it probably wouldn't affect any straight marriage, unless... some guy married this girl because he thought he had to marry someone and marrying another guy wasn't an option, so then they lived this happy life and had children and the whole bit, and then gay marriage becomes legalized and he decides he's been gay this whole time so he leaves his wife and kids and elopes with Bob his next door neighbor and they live a happy life together while both of their previous families suffer... i'm just looking at this from all sides, it's a possibility (maybe THAT'S why the government is so against it... they don't want any more broken homes?)
anyway, seriously it wouldn't affect straight marriage...

I'm not married yet, but I will be in November.
If pedophilia were legalized in November, that would not affect my straight marriage either.
Neither would the legalization of drugs, high-octane cigarettes, sub-automatic machine guns, or child porn on the Internet.
But just because they won't affect my straight marriage, does that automatically make them okay?

Gay marriages wouldnt affect straight marriages. The problem is that gay people do not keep their gayness 2 themselves. They get married, they then want 2 adopt kids & the kids grow up having 2 moms or 2 dads which contributes 2 the decline of family values, morals & all that. Can u imagine a kid walking in on their 2 fathers having sex. Or seeing them on mornings kissing each other as they leave for work.Or them sitting down on each other on the couch as they watch TV. Yuck!!

I believe the legalization of the Gay marriage would be a wrong thing, it would mess up with the whole "being Gay stuff" you know... When you are gay you have to accept the fact that you can't have children and you can't marry... That's part of the whole Gay experiece... Plus, marriage, straight or gay, is a deeply stupid thing, why would gay people want to marry, when they can live together without all the legal obliagations the marriage inputs...

That gay marriage would in any way affect straight marriage is a red herring courtesy of the Christian Right (BTW they are neither). If your marriage is "affected" by gay marriage in any way, shape or form, you didn't have much of a marriage to begin with.
Now to respond to a couple of people here who require education;
Muggles....dear sweety, you are clearly either confused or you just want to be a sh*t disturber. Gay marriage is NOT about polygamy nor is it the same as beastiality. Either your to ignorant of facts or as I said your just a........well you know.
Andrew my dear boy, clue in, anyone who still believes mankind began with just two people is diluding themselves, it would mean that we are all children of incest. Also, given the miriad of DNA out there, come on boy, smarten up. The old Adam & Eve VS. Adam and Steve is so pedantic it's not even valid, but alas I will allow you to wallow in ignorance since you clearly miss the point of the question. How will it affect your marriage. BTW if you believe it affects the kids orientation, explain gay kids of Straight parents, your arguement just went POOF!!

Well, it seems the overwhelming response is that everybody agrees it wouldn't effect 'straight' marriages. So we know that isn't the issue....
The ban on same sex marriages doesn't effect commitment, love, or co-habitation of people.... it effect insurance companies, and government agencies (i.e. social security) and other money-oriented entities.... THAT's why it's being made a big deal. And nobody wants to admit they don't want Gay marriage because of money, so they throw up this whole 'institution of marriage' argument, which makes NO sense to me at all.
It's just a greed thing.

Your question is dead on the point. Two men or two women marrying has absolutely no effect any other person's life, be they straight, married, single, divorced, black, white, etc. It simply goes against the beliefs of the a group of people who feel that they have the right to control other people's lives and tell us what is right and wrong.
According to these people, killing people in a war is okay but allowing two people who truly love each other to form a legal union is a sin and illegal. Something doesn't add up there.
