Federal government takes car of the wars and all that Jazz.

State Government should worry about schools and such.

Most of the people living in actual "poverty" in the US are lazy, relying on whatever they can get fro free. Some people are poor but not living in poverty. Some folks are in Poverty and aren't lazy but the get screwed by the lazy guys sucking the desire out of the rest of us to help them.

Cancer research is the drug companies, I'm tired of footing the bills and them getting the profits.

I sent this to a friend a few days ago. Scientifically speaking, the numbers within are unprofessionaly researched and a bit simplified, so take them with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, I hope it does illustrate how there's a lot of money being thrown down that could be better used elsewhere:
________________________

War in Iraq began on 3/13/03, today is 06/15/06. So that means 1,190 days have elapsed. To date, 2500 brave US soldiers dead.

That's 2.1 dead U.S. soldiers per day, not counting of course all the military deaths from other countries, Iraqi civilians, fighters...

Also, last year at this time, just under 12,000 US soldiers injured/maimed. Add on a conservative estimate of an additional 3,000 soldiers wounded for 2005-06, that's 15,000, or about 13 per day.

According to Sen. Harry Reid, the war has cost taxpayers over 300 billion dollars to date ( http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=67533 ), or $252,100,840 a day(!).

The census bureau reports that In 2003, 49.5 million Americans are attending K-12 school....Let's suppose (because I can't find the data) 1/13th of that 49.5 million are seniors, or 3.8 million people. In 2004 the average cost of four year accredited colleges (combining public and private institutions) was $12,607 per year. So if every senior were to attend college today, it would cost just under 48 billion per year. Three years in Iraq: 300 billion dollars. Three years of educating seniors: 144 billion dollars.

Do you ever wonder if the U.S. would have said to Sadaam Hussein, hey, dude, we will give you 50 BILLION dollars to say you are retiring, name a successor of our choosing, install a new government of our choosing, and then disappear, do you think he would have taken the deal? If so, to date there would be 2,500 fewer US lives lost (to include the unfathomable impact on their families and the huge ripple effect that will have on the future), 15,000 US maimed (to include the unfathomable impact on their lives and their families, and not counting people of all other nationalities), AND we'd have enough money to send every American high school senior to college for a year with about a 100 Billion left over.

It's kind of like the end of a Predator or Alien-style movie. Sure they get the bad guy, but in the end, the scoreboard always looks to be in favor of the bad guy.

Politics and morality notwithstanding, this thing is just bad business.

Because the greatest duty and responsibility of the government is to protect it's citizens from enemies. Try reading the Constitution if you're still confused.

The Constitution expressly forbids the federal government from getting involved in funding public schools and cancer research. That funding should come from each individual state.

I don't know why some people expect the government to tax us to pay for what we should be paying for ourselves.

You know what? Some people are saying Bush didn't win the election. Really? That means he not the President. If that's the case, then what's stopping Bush from running again in 2008?

Because when the Constitution was written it spelled out the powers and responsibilities of the federal government. One of those responsibilities is to maintain the military.
But schools, povery, and cancer research were not mentioned.
The tenth amendment to the constitution says that any powers not specifically enumerated in the Constitution are STATE issues, and not FEDERAL. Therefore, it is not the government's job to do anything at all about schools, poverty, or cancer. It is the job of the State Government.

Because we live in profit driven society and schools, poverty, and cancer research will not improve profits. War, on the other hand makes money for a lot of people.

Actually our schools and research are funded very well, unfortuantely many of the funds are misused by local government and employees. Just do a little research and see that a lot of monies ear marked for just these purposes are showing up in local politicians pockets....as for blaming Bush for everything, one person is never to blame for everything....to you people who automatically point fingers or place blame on one particular person...try looking in the mirror first.

because human nature of men who as a majority rule the government have the instinct, drive, and desire to continue raping and pillaging the world for financial gain. Even though we're a long way from high school, the same rules apply. Keep beating up everyone on the playground so no one will ever think you are weak.

Who's government and how much is enough spending we spend too much we just dont' apply the money where it needs to be and fatcats line their pockets. Even if there was no war the money would be so mismanaged we still would have problems.

The govternments job is to protect it's citizens. Period.

The blatant ignorance of this fact is apparent by the number of idiots blaming President Bush. Everything is his fault right? Better yet, start bitching about how he "didn't win the election..." Might as well sound like a complete moron, no use in half-as sing it.

Because Americans don't pay enough attention to elections and do not take time to carefully learn about the issues beyond the onesided persoective offered by FOX news.

This is what happens when Republicans are allowed to infest our government.

Until Americans take their elections are seriously as they do their recreations, our nation will become more oppressive and our civil rights eroded.
