When I try to open it, it gives an error message that says "An internal application error has occurred."
And I tried re installing it, but it still gives the error

Looks like you have a "corrupted" installation...
Totally uninstall the program, then do a registry clean like PC Tools Registry Mechanic, then reboot your computer...then reinstall a "fresh" downloaded copy of Windows Media player and see if that doesn't fix the problem...

Then....reboot your system with the Windows XP CD inserted and perform a repair. You can also try rebooting in Safemode and see if you can launch the program. If you can I would restart normally and from the RUN command type MSCONFIG....then go to the Startup Tab and deselect every other program that is running (or choose selective startup) and try to find out what other program is conflicting with your media player by slowly adding them back into the startup....This will take some time since you will need to restart after every change.

I dont know much about pc hardware, but you should check your sound card.

Go to control panel que test it.

Change your windows media player to iTunes .......its better

when that happens it usually means that you are not a computer administrater and you have to change that
