This is kind of off the subject. But I had a friend in high school. White as can be. White white. Really White...small cowboy town White. She listened to nothing but hip-hop/rap. She eventually started telling people that she was not white....she was Mexican. Then it changed from Mexican to African American. And pretty soon she did not even want to hang around with white people anymore. I still talk to her (going on 10 years) ....she still tells people she is not white...but mixed something or another. So maybe...she was brain washed a little bit...no...maybe a sh** load. BUT I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS A BAD THING! SHE IS HAPPY...FINE BY ME! I am not racist... peace

no , it's a culture. I listen to rap all the time it's what takes up most of my ipod but I'm still the same person as I always was. I'm aware of my actions, I'm not brainwashed. I may act a certain way[like , i love drawing graffiti] but it's because I'm taking part of a culture, it hasn't brainwashed me. Sure there are some artists who use gimmicks and what not and are fake but otherwise , it doesn't brainwash you. Hip-hop was a movement not a scheme to take over the minds of people.

Not at all.
For those of you who did not grow up in the hip-hop era it may seem a little foolish or even absurd to want to live/dress/talk/dance this way but if you can realize that when this "movement" started it was labeled by some Americans as a passing fad well look at it now. Back then rapping, break dancing, graffiti, beat boxing was all the inner city youth had to work with, there weren't that many Boys and Girls clubs of America around and money was tight so we made best with what we had. I commend those who embrace this lifestyle and I still live it today.

"Brainwashed" is too strong a term to use. These people are not dillusional, even though you might not like their taste in entertainment!
I admit I'm not a fan of hip-hop, but I remember how appalled I was when Disco first came out! And imagine what our grandparents thought when Rock-n-Roll first hit the airways, and guys started growing their hair long! They must have been terrified!
So these trends happen in society. It doesn't mean people have psychological issues because they like it. Just wait it out. Maybe it will go the way of disco as well!

Hip Hop has been around 25 years - a heck of a lot longer than Disco! That said, for me, it's all about the music. I don't care if anyone really has 25" rims and knows how to make crack. If the beats and rhymes ain't happening, it ain't on my iPod.

Everyone who is into a culture or a study or anything is brainwashed, cause if they weren't they wouldn't believe, cause all that things are not part of reality, they are inventions. So we are all brainwashed in a way...
