be polite about it, theres no reason why you should be rude, just say gotta get on and do something or say at beginning of conversation you're just about to do something. He probably just loneley and needs someone to talk to

Try talking about yourself and your life happenings in detail.
I have a friend that I like and all but when she calls, she likes to talk and talk but I noticed it was all about her. And when ever I started talking about my life she'd suddenly get bored and decide to end the call.
I then noticed that my Dad does the same thing.
So now when either one calls I'll talk briefly to get any important info or just to say,"hi'. But when I want to get off I just start a topic very specific to only me, like what I did at work that day, or what my kids did in school. Then I give them a convient break in the story and they will find a reason to end the call for me.

try to end the conversation faster. put an edge to what he says. if he really does annoy you tell him your minutes are almost up or you are expectinbg a phone call. talk to him at school more often and then he wont have alot to say on the phone. whatever he talks about on the phone dont add much because then he will go on and on.

youll have to tell him out righ, it may be your first step toward self confidence and a new life but someones got to do it. and the only one who can gain the confidence from doing that is yourself. he'll try to say stuff but say look man, all you do is cahtter cat when you call about the same things as yesterday. when you get it together, ill give you a call. then hang up your end. when you see him in public, tell him again. or if your truly his pal, take him to a counsellor to sign up. if he wont go, your probably not pals so opt for the first idea.

Every time you speak to him. First say that you can't stay on long then when you try to leave the call it's fine. Suggest they email you so you can appreciate what they have to say at your leisure. explain to your friend that some people prefer lengthy conversations and some don't. stpo answering their calls if it's that annoying. etc..

Tell him/her the truth! "John, I dont like talking on the phone with you because you blab for hours...and I really dont have the energy for this. I'll see you tomorrow!" If you think they'll get offended then you could always use this line, "John I cant talk my minutes are up!" LOL.

Honesty is always the best policy! Talk to him and tell him that you love to talk to him but his conversations are too long when he calls. Explain that you don't want to offend him but ask him if he can not talk so long on the phone.

Tell him you have another call coming in or that there's someone at the door. At the beginning of the conversation, tell him you can't talk long because you have to leave soon.
