i was watching a match,last night i think,and a defender just kneed the ball back and the keeper picked it up,no questions asked.

The key here is , if you have intention or not , the referee has to decide, if you have intention is foul if not is okey.-

As long as he is in the box. If the keeper steps out of the box he cannot touch it with his hands.
